What is a Great Brake Controller for 2022 Nissan Pathfinder with Factory Tow Package?

Published 12/11/2024

Question:

I have a 22 Pathfinder. I’m trying to figure out the easiest way to install the brake controller I have. Not sure if they make an adapter for this model. Then if there is an adapter, where do I get the other end?

Hello Brian,

Yes, there is a plug-in adapter for the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder, I see that Curt is the only one that makes it. I recommend the Curt Spectrum Brake Controller # C99GV, this brake controller is proportional so it works in sync when you apply your brakes, it comes with the vehicle specific harness for the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder, but my favorite feature is the adjustable knob. It's nice having the knob in an easily accessible spot not just to adjust the sensitivity of the brakes, but to be able to push that manual override button in an emergency situation.

Now I know that the # C99GV is a great controller, but having those extra features may not be for everyone. If you are looking for something a little more simple, the Curt TriFlex NEXT Trailer Brake Controller # C64QV is still proportional, comes with the vehicle specific pigtail as well, and will get the job done.

To find where the brake controller plugs in on your Pathfinder you will want to remove the kick panel on the driver side (it will be near your left foot when sitting in the driver seat). You will want to look for a wiring harness taped together, the connector is usually not visible because it is usually wrapped in black foam rubber and tape so you will have to feel around for it. On Pathfinder talk someone mentioned that sometimes the connector can be like 2" below the panel.

Also, the pigtail plug is usually only there if the vehicle came with the factory tow package, if your vehicle did not, please let me know so we can get you the correct wiring set up as well.

My car didn’t come with factory tow package but I know for my 4way there was a plug adapter that just plugged in to a factory harness (just had to add a relay). Is there something like that for the 7 way part to come out?

@BrianK Since your Pathfinder does not have the factory tow package you will need to add the 4 flat wiring, I would go with the # TK58VR. The 4 flat wiring is going to get all your lights working (blinkers, brake lights, and running lights), but in order to use a brake controller you will need to also install a kit we put together here in house # etbc7. This is more of a complexed install, I attached a breakdown video that my friend Ryan put together that explains exactly what it does. Also, since your Pathfinder did not come with the factory tow package it might not have the vehicle specific wiring connector (I always tell people to double check because sometimes it is there anyway), if you do not see it then you will want part # C51170 for the Curt Spectrum, this one will come with a universal wiring that will need to be hard wired, for the Curt Next it would be part # C43GV. I also included an install video of the etbc7 on a 2019 Toyota Highlander as we do not have one on the Pathfinder, it will give you a general idea of what the install entails.
