Hey Rick,

Do you have a 5-button thermostat or a 10-button thermostat? If you have a 5-button you'll either need to completely replace the entire system or the installation will require removing the controller from the previous units and "dumbing" down the new units to the older system in order for them to properly communicate. If you have the 10-button the rooftop units will be just a plug-and-play swap out. Let me know what you have and I can figure out what you'll need going forward. Also, do you have a color (black or white) preference for the new units?

Hi Kevin, I have a 5 button, Mode, Fan, Up, Down, and Zone. My biggest concern is replacing the wiring, seeing as it goes in the ceiling and walls! Preferred color is white. If I have to replace everything, I would like to have the quietest units. Thanks, Rick S

@RickS You'll need to go with two of the Dometic Penguin II High Capacity RV Air Conditioner w/ Heat Pump - Multi Zone - 15,000 Btu - White # DMC98ZR to replace your units. Before installing them you'll have to remove the shroud and disconnect the built in control unit and swap it out with their conversion kit (part no. 3313107.107 - can be ordered through Dometic). This conversion kit will allow the new units to communicate with the older 5-button thermostat that you have. You absolutely want to hang onto the control boards you remove from the new units. These can be reinstalled if the thermostat ever goes down and needs to be replaced with the newer 10-button version # DMC23ZR so you can minimize your cost down the road.
