Hitch and Wiring for 2023 Nissan Frontier Without Tow Package
Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 10/23/2024 >
Question:
I may be buying a 2023 Nissan frontier WITHOUT tow package. I have bought a number of hitches from you guys before. I will need to buy a hitch and wire harness for this vehicle as well. My question is….it looks like the frontiers are pre wired ? But i see some people say it just plug and play with your harness and then other says you need to add relays under the dash. Thanks in advance. Just trying to get my ducks in a row

Thanks for writing in Steve.
For the 2023 Nissan Frontier I recommend our etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2" # e98869. The weight capacity of this hitch is 500 pound tongue weight, and a 5,000 pound towing capacity (when using a weight distribution system it brings the capacity up to 800 pound tongue weight, and 8,000 pound towing).
Yes, the frontier's are pre-wired but will require relays. For the wiring you are going to want check your VIN to see if your vehicle was manufactured in the US or Canada (there are plenty of free VIN lookups online, or I am sure where you are buying the truck can let relay this information to you). Both of the wiring options for the 2023 Nissan Frontier are a plug-n-play and come with all the relays needed. If the vehicle was manufactured in the US you will want T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 7-Way Trailer Connector # 118266, if the vehicle was manufactured in Canada you will want T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 7-Way Trailer Connector # 118281.
If you are pulling a trailer without brakes and need a 4-way connector then I recommend using Pollak 7 Pole to 4 Way Connector Adapter # PK12716 with the above Tekonsha wiring.
If you need recommendation on a brake controllers please let me know.

Hey Steve, how did things go with the hitch and wiring on your Frontier? Did the harness you chose include the relays you needed? Your update could make it easier for others setting up towing on the same truck.
