How to Continue Using GM Camera System with 2022 GMC Sierra 3500 Tailgate Removed

Question:

Hello, I have 2022 Seirria 3500 hd truck. I have northern lite truckcamper one it. when the tailgate is off, the cameras dont work as error happens. I was wondering if etrailer knowns a fix about this. The only thing that I can think about is to get other camera and hook it up on the trailgate connection for the camera systems work. The GMCdealer near me, doesnt know of anything fix for this iusse. It will be fine if etrailer cant help me with this as it a GMC problem. Thank you for your help.

Hey Francisco, thanks for reaching out!

It looks like GM issued a tech bulletin (20-NA-105) back in March of 2022 which your GM dealer should have known about. In this bulletin it says the fix is to order tailgate harness part 84679989 and a camera part 84676845 from GM and then plug that into the rear harness so you can use the front and side cameras again. They do say to cover the "new" rear camera with tape so it doesn't mess up any of the other camera settings though so you'll have to keep this in mind.

If you search "GM Tech Bulletin 20-NA-105" online you'll be able to find the whole bulletin which gives the info I relayed above as well as provides pictures and how to continue using your camera system with this fix in place.
