Question:
Hi, I have a 2013 xlt premium Ford Transit Connect and I want to put a hitch on it. I looked in the manual and it said you shouldnt put one on them but I see them all the time. Is it safe and which one do you recommend? I want to be able to a cargo carrier or pull a small boat with it.

Yes, it is safe to install a trailer hitch on your 2013 Ford Transit Connect XLT. The best hitch will be the Curt Class 3 Hitch # 13076. We have successfully installed this hitch on a 2013 Transit Connect here at our shop in Missouri, and I have linked our install video for you below.
We do suggest checking your owners manual and verifying the towing capacity of your vehicle. Generally, a Transit connect is only rated for towing around 2,000 lbs. The Curt trailer hitch # 13076 is rated for 3,500 lbs towing. Keep in mind that you are only as strong as the weakest component of your towing setup. So if the vehicle is only rated for 2,000, then that will be your limit for towing. This may be why your manual discourages the usage of a trailer hitch - they want to prevent people from potentially overloading the vehicle.
You can certainly still tow a small trailer, or use a hitch mounted cargo basket like the 24x60 etrailer Cargo Carrier # 63153. Provided you do not exceed any of the specified weight ratings.
