Question:
I have a 2007 Pontiac G6 GTP with panoramic sunroof? What would the suggested route to transporting a kayak be, without endangering the sunroof. What are the options for both a permanent mount system vs one that can be removed when not in use?

Since kayaks vary considerably in size and weight I suggest that to start you check your G6 owners manual or consult with your local dealership to verify the roof weight-bearing capability for your vehicle. It is quite possible that a given kayak, plus the weight of the kayak carrier and the roof rack you choose, could exceed a vehicles roof weight capacity. Once you have confirmed the G6 has the capacity you need for transporting your kayak then you can choose a rack and carrier.
The link provided will show you the available roof rack systems for your G6 sedan with naked roof (and with panoramic sunroof). I have also linked an article that will further explain the racks available. None of these systems requires drilling like the permanent installation variety; all utilize a clamp-style attachment to secure onto your vehicle roof. Please note that your sunroof cannot be operated with any of these racks installed.
These rack options vary in the shape and length of their crossbars. Round, square, elliptical and rectangular bars are available in lengths from 47- to 58-inches. Round and square crossbars offer the best compatibility with the wide range of accessories available, but elliptical (also known as aero) crossbars will be quieter at highway speeds.
The most cost-effective option is the Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Roof Rack, consisting of parts # RRVA126B-2, # RRRLKVA and # DK067. This rack uses 49-inch black aero crossbars and the included locks secure the rack to your roof.
With this rack in place you have many options in kayak carriers ranging from cost-effective and lightweight foam block types to J-style carriers to saddle styles among others. The link provided will let you see all options that will fit the square crossbars in the Rhino-Rack. You can choose also from single-kayak or multiple-kayak carriers as well as from among several brands. Your best options will be most easily determined once you confirm the weight of your kayak and the vehicle roof weight limit.
I have linked an article on roof-mount water sport carriers that might help you determine your preferences.
If you wish, you can let me know the number of kayaks and their weight(s) and the roof weight limit for your G6 and I can then make more specific recommendations both for roof racks and kayak carriers.
