Question:
I have a 2007 fleetwood southwind and my front slide is coming very slow and actually stopped last time out. It has always been slow on retract at leveling but almost left me stranded. is that a weak motor before I spend the money to find out not that. It has power gear with single motor. Someone told me a about a rheostat to look for...

If the slide out is having a hard time extending and retracting then it could very well be an indicator that your motor is starting to go out. Before purchasing anything I recommend checking the power and ground connections to ensure that the motor is getting what it needs to properly operate. This would mean that the ground wire is in good condition and ran to the frame of the RV and that the motor has 12 volts of power, which you can test by pricking into the wire casing with a multimeter # PT89ZR.
If power and ground are good then you can also check the rails and gear packs of the slide out for any obstructions. If the teeth on your gear packs are worn then you could be getting less traction and therefore having a hard time moving the box. I made a video awhile back for gear packs like the # LC281331 that should help explain what to look for and how to replace the gear pack if necessary.
If power and ground are good and the railing has no issues then your motor is most likely at the end of its life cycle and will need to be replaced. If this is the case there are typically two stickers, one on the motor and one on the gearbox, that will have serial numbers on them that we can use to try and find the correct replacement. If you can get me these numbers I'd be happy to look for that replacement for you.
