Question:

I see a lot info on the truck bed sizes and I am not sure how that correlates to long or short designation? The RAM Trucks have either the 6 foot short bed or the 7 foot long bed, I think. How does the Ford 6.75foot bed size fall into above, short or long bed? What 5th wheel hitch would I need to use. Can I use the GEN-Y for the Ford 6.75inch truck box or would I need the sliding type. Thanks

The Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY58GR is designed for long bed trucks. I'm not sure which Ford truck you have exactly, but the 6-3/4' bed is the short bed model. It is still possible it will work, but that depends on your measurements or trailer design. If you have a tapered nose on your trailer then that would allow for enough clearance. If not, measuring is the only way to check.

You can use this formula to see if you'll have enough clearance to make a 90 degree turn using the Gen-Y:

(A + B) - C = Clearance
A = Distance from the gooseneck ball center to the truck cab
B = Offset used (use 0 for now)
C = Width of the nose of the trailer divided by 2

If it's a negative number then there would be contact with the cab making tight turns. I also do not know what your setup is. It is possible there is an option for an offset ball that would give you additional clearance.

If you don't have enough clearance then you would be looking at a sliding hitch like the # BWRVK3400-5W. If you let me know the year and model of your Ford truck, along with whether or not you have the OEM prep package, I can give you some better recommendations if the Gen-Y won't work for you.
