Expert Reply:
The axle tube on a 3500lb axle like yours is not made out of any special material, but if the axle tube is bent then you really need to just replace the entire axle.
Axle tubes always have a slight bow in them so that when the trailer is fully loaded the axle tube is straight, and this is not something that you can easily replicate when making your own axle tube.
Replacement axles are available but the correct one will be dependent on the hub face to hub face and spring center to spring center measurement of your current axle.
For example we have the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with EZ-Lube Spindles # T3584F-EZ-8974 which has a hub face to hub face measurement of 89" and a spring center to spring center measurement of 74" as shown in the included diagram.
If this matches the dimensions of your current axle then this would be a great replacement option for you. If not just send me the measurements of your axle and I would be happy to see if we have a replacement available for you.
I included a video of the # T3584F-EZ-8974 for you to take a look at.
