Replacing Gooseneck Hitch Ball For Curt Hitch C60700 With Excessive Play
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
I bought the Curt 60700 underbed gooseneck hitch for my Ford F250 from you last year and am using it with the Curt 60629 gooseneck ball and a Reese gooseneck hitch which is great, also from you guys. My question is that there seems to be a fair amount of slack in the way the ball fits into the hitch hole. As measured at the ball, there is over 1/8 inch play back and forth see at ends of travel, which to me seems excessive, and Im wondering if this is the cause of some clunking around Im hearing and feeling when towing my 11000lb trailer? Is this normal? Is there a better ball that actually tightens down into the underbed puck system to remove slop? thanks

First, thank you for the purchase of the Curt Custom Underbed OEM-Style Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # C60700, which does use hitch ball # C60629. And in regards to the amount of play, you are correct that 1/8" of play is more than you want; typically about 1/16" of play is considered normal.
This is not the first time I've heard of this hitch ball being too loose and having too much play, and there is an option I recommend that is going to be better, from B&W:
- B&W Ball and Safety Chain Kit for Ford, GM, and Nissan Titan Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # BWGNXA2061
The # BWGNXA2061 gooseneck ball (which doesn't come separately, only with the safety chain hookups as well), is a higher-quality option that won't have as much play and is also easier to use with its locking handle compared to the latch on the top of the Curt ball.
