Roof Rack And Kayak Carrier To Carry Two Heavy Kayaks On 2015 Toyota 4Runner Limited

Question:
Hi - I currently own a 2021 Hobie Pro Angler kayak and I transport it on top of my 2015 Toyota 4Runner limited with Curt roof rack cross bars and NRS cam straps. It works quite well. Im now looking to buy a 2nd kayak for my wife and needed to know the best way to transport them together. I was thinking of a J-style set of cradles for her kayak but the combined weight of my kayak and hers would be about 170 pounds and the Curt bars have a listed limit of 150 pounds. I unfortunately do not have the luxury of purchasing a trailer at this time. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Since the weight capacity of your Curt Roof Rack is 150lbs, you will really want to get a different roof rack that can accommodate the total 170lbs of your two kayaks.
Your best option is going to be the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars # RRVA126B-2 along with # RRSX100 which will attach to the factory roof rails on your 2015 Toyota 4Runner Limited. This Rhino-Rack system has a weight capacity of 175lbs.
Since this only leaves you with about 5lbs to be added, I recommend going with a lightweight foam block kayak carrier such as Rightline Gear Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs and Car Clips # RL100K10. This only weighs 1lb and is for one kayak, so you can get two of these to haul both of your kayaks. These foam blocks simply slide over your crossbars and provide a nice cushioned mounting spot for your kayaks. Straps are included to secure the blocks to your vehicle and also secure the kayaks to the roof.
