can i use a 60 degree lug nut in place of a 90 degree lug nut

You will want to stick with the same style of lug nut, so if you use 90 degree lug nuts, stick with that. The reason is the taper on the 60 degree lug nut is steeper, so there could be fit issues depending on your trailer wheel, as they are designed for specific cones where the lug nut will be.
So for a 90 degree lug nut, for 5/8" wheel bolts you will need the Trailer Wheel Lug Nut # X1148 while for 9/16" wheel bolts you will need the Dexter Trailer Wheel Lug Nut # STN569.
