Recommended Tire Chains for 275/60-20 Tires on 2020 GMC Sierra 1500

Question:

I have 275/60R20 tires. The owners manual states not to use chains. I have expensive rims.... don’t want to damage these. What do you recommend? Truck is 4WD Thanks

Your owner's manual states that chains shouldn't be used with your given tire size due to the limited amount of clearance between the inside of the tire and the brake/suspension components.

If you choose to use chains anyway due to local regulations where you can't use given roads without chains in place, I'd recommend going with Titan # TC751DC cable chains, due to the fact that they offer the most inside clearance (at least 15mm) of any chain options we offer for your tire size. The diamond pattern will provide lateral grip that will prevent sliding sideways.

Once installed, the cables can come into contact with the rims, damaging them which is unfortunately unavoidable. The included adjusters will help prevent the cables from moving around, but won't completely eliminate the possibility of the rims being damaged.

Other folks in this same situation have obtained a set of less expensive steel wheels for use in the winter, this might be a good option for you.
