What All is Needed to Tow a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder SL Behind a Motorhome

Updated 07/23/2024 | Published 05/09/2020

Question:

I have a Blue Ox tow bar. I just purchased a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder SL that I want to tow behind my RV. Which base plate would work? Thx!

In order to tow your 2017 Nissan Pathfinder SL behind your RV you'll actually need to tow it using a tow dolly, otherwise you'll ruin the transmission. I checked with the online owner's manual for your vehicle and it states to only tow a 2WD 2017 Pathfinder using a tow dolly (front wheels on the dolly). From what I can find the SL version that you have is a 2WD so you are good to go there (if it was 4WD then you'd have to tow it on a trailer).

For your application I highly recommend the Demco Kar Kaddy SS # DM9713045 for a few reasons; it's the cream of the crop so you get the most features, it comes with a steerable axle which allows it to track directly behind your motorhome, and the ramps fold in while the tongue stows away so you take up less room both at the campsite and at home.

I have attached a review video of this tow dolly for you to check out.

Hello all. Could someone advise me on the like hood of towing a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder ST on a Dolly Trailer. It has free wheel hubs on the front wheels. An if possible direct me to written directions on procedures to follow with car and trailer. Thank yo in advance. Cheers Fred

@Fred I looked up the online owner's manual for your 2014 Nissan Pathfinder and it stated on page 9-27 that you need to use a tow dolly like the Demco Kar Kaddy SS # DM9713045 that I referenced above. It didn't look like there were specific instructions for your vehicle, but I will be linking the instructions to this answer page for the tow dolly for your reference.

@JonG Thank you Jon, your very generous with your time and expertise. Now could I impose on you again as I made a error with my car year date due either to fat fingers or just a old fool. My pathfinder is a 2004. Cheers Fred

@Fred Thanks for the correction! Check out pages 9-22 and 9-23 of your copy of the owner's manual for this. It looks like an All Mode 4WD can't be towed with any wheels on the ground, but Part Time 4WD and 2WD modes are okay for being towed with a dolly.
