Question:
I'm 72 and love biking but want an easy to use rack to load bikes for both myself and my riding partner. I've got an Audi A4 and was thinking a hitch rack would be better than a roof mounted bike rack. What do you recommend?

If ease of loading your bikes is most important, I would definitely recommend a hitch mounted rack over a roof mounted.
As far as a hitch to recommend, I like the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11448 that will do a great job for you. This rack has a low profile look and as you can see from the included customer picture, it blends in well with the rest of the A4's undercarriage.
Then an easy to load bike rack I recommend is the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Platform Rack # KU74FR. It's step-through design and lowered position at the rear of your Audi will save your back and shoulders strain when loading bikes after a long day riding. Also the ratcheting hooks and straps make for a quick and easy mounting of your bikes without making frame contact.
