The max length on my camper is just under 16ft with the latter that leaves almost 2 ft extra -what do I do with all the extra material

Based on my research your Palomino HS-6601 truck camper has an overall length of 16 feet, 8 inches. With this in mind the Camco UltraGuard Slide-In Camper Cover # CAM45770 will work perfectly.

This particular cover works well for truck campers that are 16 to 18 feet long, so the extra wiggle room in length will be more than enough to accommodate the rear ladder on your camper. If the total length of your Palomino truck camper is just under 16 feet including the rear ladder I do recommend stepping down in size to the Camco UltraGuard Cover # CAM45771. This is the same exact cover as the previously recommended model in terms of construction/features but is designed for smaller campers between 14 and 16 feet long. This will give you a really nice, snug fit that won't billow in the wind while in storage.
