Question:

Looking for straps with hooks big enough to hook onto Yakima round bars which have a diameter of 1 1/8. Most 1 inch straps only have 1inch openings on the S-hooks. These ones look bigger - will they work for a 1 1/8inch diameter bar?

I do have an option for you but the CargoBuckle Ratchet Tie-Down Straps part # IMF12636 only have a 7/8" wide opening. However, the Ratchet Tie Down Straps part # ETBMB-05852 have a 1-1/4" wide opening so it should work just fine on a Yakima Round Crossbar.
