Question:

I have a boat dock that is about 70 feet from the bank. I will have to let it out about 40 feet when the water goes down. What type of cable and winch would you recommend to make it easier to move it in and out?

Most winches can use a wire rope or nylon strap of up to about 20-feet in length. In your floating dock application where there is not really going to be a lot of weight on the winch an item like the 600-lb-rated Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL14125 would do the trick. With it you can use a 50-foot cable # DL24104.

I am looking for a winch that will hold at least 30 ft of stainless wire rope. This is to move a boat dock with water fluctuations

We actually have a number of hand winches that could handle 30 or more feet of stainless steel rope. For example, the drum capacity on the Dutton-Lainson # DL14627 is 58 feet of up to 9/32" diameter rope/cable. This particular winch features an 1,800 pound capacity and is made in the USA.
