Recommended Trailer Coupler Locks for Wide Coupler Security

Question:

Thanks for answering my question, but you provided a coupler lock not a coupler pin lock. The pin is the part that holds the latch in place and prevents it from moving and inadvertently opening the hitch. Normally this is a strait pin with a latching mechanism (but I’m looking for a lock to keep it secure to the tow vehicle). I’ve looked at items like the Tow Ready Trailer Coupler lock and an armored lock from Masterlock but they don't fit this trailer coupler (either throat of lock is too small or pin length is too short. I’ve also looked at items similar to Item # BL7025287 I but they’re pretty weak and don’t provide much protection (YouTube videos of lock lasting 2seconds with a pipe bending the lock off ). Any suggestions or a Coupler latch pin lock for Atwood 80060? Thanks again

For your Atwood Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler 80060, I recommend the Fastway Universal Trailer Coupler Lock for 1-7/8", 2" and 2-5/16" Couplers # FA86-0015-318 or the Master Lock Coupler Lock for 1-7/8", 2", 2-5/16" Couplers # ML389DAT are both good options. The latter doesn't have any restrictions of the width of the coupler.

Sorry about assuming you wanted it for when the trailer wasn't connected. There are not many pin locks as you stated (also known as latch locks) that can't be removed by someone determined to get your trailer, but they are a deterrent for many. That particular style lock isn't ideal based on your concerns, but I do have another option for you. You can use the HITCH-LOCK Trailer Guard Coupler Lock by Dutton-Lainson # DL13980 which will allow you to use a padlock to lock your trailer when it is connected or when it is disconnected. I recommend the Master Lock Stainless Steel Padlock with Shielded Shackle # ML40D or the Master Lock commercial grade padlock # ML1KA.
