How Wide of a Vehicle Can Fit on Roadmaster Tow Dollies

Updated 05/28/2025 | Published 01/31/2018

Question:

Ive been told my Honda Odyssey is too wide for some tow dollies. I need a way to tow it behind my 34foot RV. The Odyssey is a 2006 Touring Elite. The tow vehicle is a 34foot Thor Hurricane with a Ford V10. I do not want to use a tow bar because I plan to swap out the Odyssey for a newer model another Odyssey in the near future. What would you recommend for this application?

The Roadmaster Tow Dolly part # RM-2050-1 has a maximum usable tire width of 77 inches. So if you measured from the outside of your front tire to the other side and the distance was less than that this dolly will fit.

I have a highlander with 245/55R19 tires on it. The outside width from outside tread to outside tread is 76". Platform looks to be 77". It will obviously fit on the platform, but will the dolley fenders potentially hit the vehicle on a tight turn? Thanks

@James Since your steering wheel will be locked on your Highlander when towed on a dolly like the Roadmaster # RM-2050-1 you would not need to worry about the fenders hitting the vehicle around corners.

@JamesonC Well when towing my camry with the steering wheel locked the fenders of the dolley pivot very close to the cars body sometimes on turns. The camry is a much narrower vehicle

@James I see what you mean. The max width that Roadmaster says you can use with this is 77 inch so I would think it would be totally fine but if you have the dolly already I would carefully try using it with the Highlander and keep an eye on how it handles turns and see if there would be any interference.
