Recommendation to Maintain and Charge Battery on Dump Trailer
Question:
The questions I have for is essentially how do I maintain the charge in a trailer battery for a dump trailer? Currently, the trailer has a large battery similar to that which would be found in a truck/car. This battery is utilized for both the breakaway brakes and the dump function. As purchased the trailer has the 12V + from the 7 pin connector wired directly to the + terminal of the trailer battery. This, however, doesnt seem to be able to maintain the charge. Would a battery charger 12vDC to DC such as part # 2024-07 or item # 1024 work to maintain the charge better than it is currently setup? If so would it be sufficient that running the tow vehicle for a while how long? that the battery would be charged. thanks for your help

A vehicle's 7-Way wiring can typically be used to deliver a maintenance charge to keep a charged battery at full charge while you are driving, however it will not deliver enough current to re-charge a battery that is depleted in any way. To better maintain and charge your dump trailer's battery, I recommend using the CTEK MULTI US 12-Volt Universal Battery Charger # CTEK56353.
This powerful battery charger uses a pulse-maintenance system to charge and maintain 12V batteries like what you have on your trailer. It will constantly monitor the charge to prevent overcharging or an undercharged battery. Two battery-cable attachment systems are included for an easy to install, quick-disconnect system.
I have attached a video demonstration on this product so you can see exactly how it works.
