Recommended Rim for a 245/75 R16 Light Truck Tire

Question:

I am looking at purchasing 4 Dexstar wheels. Size 16x6 6 lug on 51/2inch centers. My question is. will LT245/75/R16 tires be O K for those wheels.

We have wheels that work for you but the Dexstar # AM20741 isn't wide enough for your tires. A 245/75 R16 size tire needs at least a 6-1/2 inch wide rim. We carry a few 16 inch wheels that are that wide, such as # AM22657.

You may be better off going with a 235/80 R16, like # TA39VR, which is basically the same diameter as the 245/75 R16 size. You will also have the benefit of a trailer tire with a thicker sidewall instead of the LT truck tires. Some LT tires are rated for trailer use but yours are not. When the LT in the tire size comes before the rest of the size they're not rated for trailer use. When the LT is after the tire size they are. The difference is the strength of the sidewall. Trailer tires have a stiffer sidewall to handle the load on them.

So I just had a tire mechanic say he puts 245/75r16 lt tires on 6 inch rims all the time. I am so confused! I have a 92 Dodge Roadtrek Popular 190 The rims are 6 x16 I would love a wider tire than the 225/75r16 and had read 245 were the way to go. But then it won't fit 6 inch rims and now someone says they do. ARGH!

@Rebecca A 245/75r16 tire is designed to work with a 16 inch rim that's 6-1/2 to 7-1/2 inches wide.
