Recommended Transmission Cooler for 2008 Honda Ridgeline
Question:
Hi, I have an 08 Ridgeline and am planning to get a Bockmann lightweight horse trailer to tow. Trailer does not require a brake controller, has 200 lb tongue weight and weighs 2200 lbs. Loaded I would be towing around 3500 lbs. Would you recommend a transmission cooler for my truck and if so which one? Thank you.

For your 2008 Honda Ridgeline, a transmission cooler will be a wise choice. It will prolong the life of your transmission and improve its overall performance.
For your Ridgeline, I recommend the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/Barb Inlets - Class III - Efficient, # D13503. This is a plate-fin cooler that allows for heat distribution and increased air flow to cool your fluid. It is specifically designed for vehicles with late-model, electronic overdrive transmissions. It includes the complete mounting kit, OEM spec hose with stanless steel clamps and Insta-dapt radiator adapter.
Since your loaded trailer is more than half your vehicle weight, I recommend using a weight distribution system. The most important factor to consider when choosing a system is the total tongue weight, which is the fully loaded tongue weight of the trailer and any cargo behind the rear axle of your truck. I've attached an article to help.
For your application, I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 4,000 lbs GTW, 400 lbs TW, # EQ37040ET. This system uses metal on metal friction to control sway and the trunnion spring bars distribute the weights evenly across your trailer for a safer more level ride. I've included a video for you.
