Transmission Cooler Recommendation for 2002 GMC Yukon XL Towing Trailer in Dessert

Published 10/25/2016

Question:

I have a 2002 GMC Yukon XL with an 8.1 Liter Engine. I have the 4-speed HD Automatic Transmission- 4L85E. I was driving to the Desert last weekend towing my 18foot Toy Hauler which is about 6500 lbs. On some of the grades, my trans temp would get to 240 and then down to 200-210 range on flats. I verified I have a trans cooler in front of my a/c evaporator, but its pretty small for being a stock tow package. I didnt measure out the free space on either left or right side of the evaporator, but I do know the radiator I replaced 2 months ago is huge. Any suggestions on a bolt on without doing any line cutting? I would say the largest I can fit that you know of? I guess I would keep the existing cooler and route the new one in. Thanks,

For a cooler you would want the part # D13504 which measures 11" wide x 12" tall x 7/8" deep. This is a great cooler that will help get your transmission fluid down to a temperature that will help prevent premature failure.

You will also need to use the fitting part # D13018 so that you don't have to do any cutting or flaring of metal lines.
