Recommended Weight Distribution/Sway Control System for Jayco Jay Flight 32TSBH Travel Trailer  

Question:

Hi, If I have a 2016 Ford 150 with the max towing package 2650 payload, 11700 towing, and also a Jayco 32TSBH 10500 GVWR, what weight distributing hitch would you recommend? Thank you so much!

To choose a weight distribution system, you'll need to first determine the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer. To that figure, add the weight of any gear stowed in the truck bed behind the rear axle. I've linked to an FAQ article that explains how to do this. These combined figures represent the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your set-up. The TTW of your trailer should fall as close as possible to the middle of the effective range of the weight distribution system you choose.

Jayco's website tells me that the dry tongue weight of a 2016 Jayco 32TSBH is 685 lbs, This doesn't include your gear, propane, fresh water, etc so the actual ready to tow tongue weight will be greater than that amount.

Because travel trailers are more susceptible to trailer sway caused by crosswinds and turbulence caused by crosswinds or oncoming traffic, I'd recommend using a weight distribution system with an integrated sway control system. The Equal-I-zer weight distribution hitch is one of the best on the market for controlling trailer sway. The systems are easy to set up, and are mechanically pretty simple.

Your trailer's ready to tow tongue weight is likely between 800-1200 lbs, so if you determine the ready to tow tongue weight is at the lower end of that spectrum, go with the # EQ37100ET which is designed for trailers with tongue weights in the 600-1000 lb range. If the tongue weight is greater than 850 lbs or so, use # EQ37120ET which is recommended for a tongue weight range of 800-1200 lbs. If the tongue weight is greater than 1100 lbs, go with # EQ37140ET which works best with tongue weights in the 1000-1400 lb range.

All three systems I mentioned include a shank and a 2-5/16 inch ball, but you'll need a thin walled 1-7/8 inch socket to install the trailer ball. If you don't have one, we offer one as part # EQ70-00-4800.
