I don't have a trailer hitch or roof rack on my 16 Grand Caravan and prefer not to install either. Will the Thule trunk mount also fit the hatch on my van?

Yes, you can use a trunk mount bike carrier on your 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan. I do recommend the Thule OutWay, # TH45JV for 2 bikes or # TH56BV for 3 bikes. I own an older version of this carrier and it is by far the best and easiest to use trunk mount carrier I have ever used.
I have included a link to a video review of the OutWay for you.
If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical men's bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # 64005. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have linked a video showing how the adapter works.
