Air Bag Air Pressure to Capacity Rating and Helper Springs for Trailer Suspension.
Question:
I am reserching the proper airbag to put on a trailer that I own. I read in these posts that 1 psi of pressure = 40 lbs. of weight carrying cap. Is it safe to assume that is an airbag is inflated at 100 psi, that it will carry 4000 pounds?

That might be accurate if it is just a measure of air pressure but you also have to consider the spring material and construction. The Firestone air bags, # F2071, are actually rated for 3,200 to 5,000 pounds load-leveling capacity.
Please note that air bags are meant to supplement suspension but not replace it. Depending on the pressure in the air bags when used with leaf spring suspension you could experience a stiff ride.
Also there are products specifically designed for use on trailers but the Firestone air bags are not one of them. I have included a link to the suspension enhancement options designed for use on trailers for you to check out.
