Locating The brake Switch Wire To Install A Brake Controller On 2009 Nissan Murano

Updated 05/22/2020 | Published 07/23/2015

Question:

Watch your etrailer video on 2009 murano brake controller install. Problem is you say there is a yellow wire to splice into on the brake switch. There is no yellow wire on mine, there are two switches both with a green and a red wire with grey rings. Which wire do i splice into?

When trying to locate the correct wire on the brake switch to install your # 5504, you will need a circuit tester like part # PTW2993. You will need to find the wire that shows power only when the brake pedal is depressed. The colors of the wires may vary which is why we always recommend using a circuit tester to find the right wire. It sounds like the manufacturer may have used the same color wire for multiple locations.

I have attached a photo of the switch located under the dash at the top of the brake pedal with an arrow pointing to the wiring location.

2009 Nissan murano. All the lights are working but when I use the turn signal the brake controller is activating the trailer brake causing them to surge on and off in time with the blinker

I would definitely make sure the red wire from your brake controller is connected to the correct brake light switch wire on the Murano. This wire should ONLY get power when the brake pedal is depressed and no other power with any other function. Use a circuit tester to verify that you're hooked up to the right wire - it sounds like the wire you're currently tapped into also carries power with the turn signal.
