Clamp-On Installation

The TracONE comes with a mounting kit that allows for quick, easy installation to the factory track system in the bed of your Toyota Tacoma. Simply position the bases of the rack where indicated in the included instructions and secure them with the provided clamps. Each support base is held in place by 2 heavy-duty aluminum clamps. Torque the clamps down to ensure a substantial connection and you're good to go.

Cantilever Over-the-Cab Extension

Included with your TracRac system is the cantilever extension, which attaches to the front crossbar to provide 32" of additional length over the cab of your vehicle. With this extension piece mounted, you can carry long loads safely and easily. The crossbar of the cantilever extension is constructed in the same fashion as the other TracRac crossbars so that you get the same sturdy, aerodynamic styling throughout.

Toolbox Mounts

Four of the included installation clamps have pre-drilled attachment points so that you can securely mount a crossover-style toolbox (sold separately). The clamps eliminate the need to drill into your truck bed rails when installing the toolbox.

TracRac Slotted Crossbars

The sturdy aluminum crossbars on all TracRac truck racks feature integrated slots for mounting and easily adjusting accessories, such as the included load stops. These slots appear on both the top and bottom of the bars for the ultimate in mounting versatility.

A built-in trip strip at the front of each crossbar shields the slots from wind, maintaining the aerodynamic quality of the bars and preventing that annoying whistle you often find with slotted bars.

Included and Optional Accessories

Included with the TracONE are 4 aluminum load stops with tie-down points. These load stops are designed to mount in the slots of the crossbars and slide along them for quick, easy adjustment.

TracRac crossbars accept a variety of accessories (sold separately) that slide and adjust for optimal placement.

Sturdy, Rustproof Construction

The TracONE rack system is constructed of durable, lightweight aluminum. Because aluminum is lighter than steel - the material most often used for truck racks - only a small percentage of your truck's cargo capacity is taken up by the rack itself, enabling you to pack on more weight than you could with a steel system.

Even though aluminum is already rustproof, TracRac has taken the extra step of adding a dual powder coat finish to further protect the rack. The silver electrostatic powder coat (e-coat) clings to the metal surface better than traditional paint finishes for a more durable covering. The second coat is a clear finish that adds extra shine and protection from scuffs and scratches.

Don’t own one of these if you live or work on anything but a smooth as glass road. The screws that hold it together break off. I own two of these and the extension over the cab had to be removed permanently on both because the screws broke. In one year I have had to take the other part of the racks apart and drill out broken screws and replace. If they don’t break off they wiggle out and then the rack bounces around all the time. The rack looks nice but it needs some serious engineering upgrades. I wouldn’t buy one again for sure and they are very expensive to start with

by:

Like how these racks turned out everything came together good andlooks great but this truck and these Racks have to work can't wait to use them

by:

I also bought the cantilever which is not level with the original truck racks. After putting on some steel bars and slide the adjustable holders, going around a turn, the sliding tightener broke. You can't tie anything to the rack supports "vertical supports" because they are sloped in and any knot will eventually work itself up the vertical supports. No holes at the bottom of the racks for rain to get out. You can do much better!

Can't install the back rack at the end of my bed, I have had to move it forward (towards the cab) about 6in. With a 5ft bed it's already short. I also thought the cantilever was longer, it's only 33in from middle rail's center. And the worst part it was missing one of the rubber strips. There were only 3 instead of 4. Now I got to go look for some type of a replacement since I need this rack for tomorrow and can't wait for you guys to ship out another one.

Although I do want to say thank you so much for all your help getting this delivered to my house and so quickly. And give 5 stars for shipping and customer service.

by:

Very pleased with the precise fit of all components

by:

Service was from e trailer was great everything was delivered in less then a week. Rack seems well made and went together without a hitch, only small issue is on Tacoma install clamps are close to truck bed so you can really only access with allen key. My Tacoma is silver so it looks great. Thanks.

Fist of all etrailer did a great job getting this product to me promptly. I am a repeat etrailer customer and will remain so in the future.

This review is for the TracONE ladder rack. There are other versions available on etrailer from the same company. I bough this one because other than the load capacity being 800 lbs instead of 1000 lbs as for the Thule Pro2 rack I could not tell that there was much difference. 800 lbs capacity will be fine for my work.
As for the rack: I had a custom installed TracRac on my old Dakota truck for the last 19 years and loved it. It always carried the ladders and lumber I needed without issues. It was a quality built product that did exactly what it was supposed to do, year after year and nearly two decades in use still looks pretty darn good doing it. When I got a new Tacoma naturally I wanted to repeat that success. That's not gonna happen with this rack, at least not in the long run.
First: This has a painted finish, not anodized aluminum. There is NO WAY the paint is going to hold up. Maybe if you only carried plastic kayaks or surf boards it would be OK, but sliding aluminum and fiberglass ladders up onto it, or heavy framing lumber, is sure to scrape off the paint. Even assembling the rack required extra care to not nick up the finish.
Second: My old rack's saddles at the top of the uprights and the bases at their bottoms were fully welded and therefore sealed. They have now been replaced by a bolt-together arrangement. There is no provision for this to be to be made fully watertight in nasty weather, and there is no drain from the uprights if water does get in there.
Third: only some, but not all, of the hardware provided to bolt it all together is stainless steel. The non-stainless stuff is sure to rust in a matter of a few weeks or months.
Fourth; I got the cantilever kit as well. The welds on the cantilever arms are sloppy. I don't think this will effect the performance, but at this price point it looks amateurish.
Fifth: About 25% of the tapped holes needed their threads chased to assemble the rack. Mostly excess paint in the threads I suppose, but annoying. Also you will need a bit of patience to assemble the rack. Some of the socket head cap screws that they use so liberally are in difficult to access locations. You can't get to 'em with a socket setup so it is mostly by ball end driver and 1/4 turn at a time. This is particularly true on the Tacoma specific mounting clamps but it shows up other places as well, such as when attaching the cantilever arms to the uprights.
Lastly if you decide to buy this rack anyway be aware of two things: One the upper saddles on the forward uprights get changed out entirely if you are adding the cantilever support. Open the cantilever kit first and use the alternate saddles to assemble those uprights or, like me, you will be doing it twice. Then, specifically on the Tacoma, the rearward assembly can't be set fully to the back end of the truck bed because the truck bed's top edges bulge inward at that point. You have to set the rack bases forward enough to miss this bulge or the clamps won't fit.
Conclusion
This is NOT the same quality as the old TracRac. Although It will work in the short run, I am sure that in a matter of a few months of New England weather and rugged work it will look beat up and rusty in places. I'll be curious to see what happens with those uprights after a driving nor'easter with a hard freeze following.
With my criticisms noted I can say it DID come with all the parts; it DID go together; and it DID fit on my truck where, for the moment, it looks pretty good.
The biggest problem is that this rack wasn't cheap! There are similar racks out there (copy-cat versions) for a heck of a lot less money that ARE anodized, ARE weather tight, have professional-looking "stack 'o nickles" welds, and come with stainless hardware, all for less money. I shied away from buying one of those because I thought TracRac and Thule were serious about their quality and I had such good luck with my old TracRac. It turns out that was a bad choice on my part. I would NOT recommend this rack nor would I buy it again mostly because of the high price and my questions about the longevity. YMMV

by:

After 15 months I finally got it. Fits well good quality.
