Installation of Tekonsha T-One Connector

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the body harness up to your car battery and connect the wires per the included instructions.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once installation is complete, the 7-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 7-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a 2-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's 3-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Installation of Tekonsha Brake Controller Adapter

This adapter splices into the 4-pin connector on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. The harness is located to the left of the steering column, through a grommet in the engine compartment.

This adapter is designed to plug directly into your electric brake controller after splicing into your vehicle's wiring. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time and securely stow it away.

Minimal space required and a lot of functionality at a good price.I forget it is even there. I have never had a bad experience at etrailer.

Much better solution than the dealer, some additional parts are required/helpful. First, there was pre-installed wiring on my Transit 350 XLT 148" wheelbase passenger van, but it turned out to be useless unless you have the dealer install their trailer kit, which requires re-programming the computer, replacing part of the center console, and losing your center cupholders, in addition to costing north of $[XX] (at least at my dealer). This solution was MUCH cheaper and better. The pros are price, it works perfectly/very reliable, I was able to use my existing Tekonsha brake controller, I didn't lose my cupholders, and I'm not relying on any of the factory wiring.

The cons are installation difficulty for the passenger version of the van, and some parts that are technically unnecessary, but I thought it really needed. I will say that the installation difficulty is due to Ford's engineering of the Transit, not Tekonsha's design of the kit.

I've posted some pictures to show what it took to get to the access opening for the tail lights. It required removing side panels up to the ceiling on both sides and lifting the floor deck to clear the rear A/C compressor cover. The wiring into and out of the battery compartment required holes in the sheet steel compartment that would have left a sharp edge biting into the conductor insulation. In both locations, I put rubber grommets to protect the conductors. There is a short run of three wires that I couldn't hide from the front of the battery compartment, but it is pretty well tucked away.

I've seen some comments about doing it in a well lit space, daylight if possible. That is good advice, particularly when getting into and out of the battery compartment.

All in all, it probably took me 4 hours or so of work, interrupted by a run to the store for the grommets. I'm rating it 5 stars because I think it's about as good as you can get, given the challenges presented by Ford.

Worked as expected. Installation straight forward. Would purchase again.

by:
2017 Ford Transit T150

Installation took me alone about 3 hours, I purchased the receiver, complete wire harness and the brake controller , everything went together per the instructions, the only problem I ran into is when installing the rear frame rail bolts ! Not so easy you must be somewhat mechanically inclined, also I sort of expected that after purchasing the entire wiring harness, controller and receiver that it would include a pigtail mount ! It does not , had to order it separately!

We have bought 2 hitches from etrailer and have had no issues installing, fast shipping, clear instructions make install easy.

by:

This is the most well thought out complete kit with the best instructions I’ve ever seen for any project. Cant go wrong.

by:

The harness does not make it to the front of the van so I'm splicing more wires and the way it splices into the brake pedal switch is terrible there's got to be a much better way it's just cheap Chinese junk like everything else

2016 Ford Transit T250

I purchased a trailer hitch and cables to add trailer lights and brakes to a 2016 ford transit van. The hitch and all hardware came on time and very well packed with no damage. The install went perfectly with all connections fitting the factory plugs. The savings by doing the install myself was easily 2 to 3 hundred dollars.

After a year everything still works great

This is what I was going to write, but decided not to. Need to update your site to not suggest a part that doesn’t fit the product your purchasing since there’s no way to determine the bolt pattern, the harness worked great, going to a local dealer to try and find the mounting bracket>

I'm sure this items works great, the issue is that this was shown on the same page as the 7-pole harness and the bolt pattern does not match. Can't use it. Need to keep the suggestions the same as the product you purchase.

The Tekonsha OEM Replacement Vehicle Wiring Harness w Brake Controller Adapter part 22114 for the 2017 Ford Transit T350. The 7-way plug that comes with the Tekonsha kit requires the Mounting Bracket and Installation Hardware part PK12711U. If you do not want to drill you can also use the no drill bracket part C57202 with the bracket.

When wiring a 7 way this is the best way to go.

by:

The guy installing it didn't complain so I guess it was good

by:

The trailer wiring has worked flawlessly for a year and would get 5 star rating except, and this is a very big except... absolutely disconnect your battery on the Ford Transit before beginning the wiring installation. I know the battery is under the seat and impossible to see in the dark as all the seat bolts are black and the base is black. But do this project in the daylight when you have plenty of time. I was trying to wire up lights at 11pm for a trip to Texas the next day. I did not disconnect the battery and this one is one me, but the wiring harness comes with all the wires stripped to bare copper at the end and electrical taped together so they will pass through the mount easily. It's a great concept but if you start your van to back it out of the shop so you can turn it around and have light where you're working... those bare wires do all kinds of funny things to your Ford Transit. The fuses start blowing. You've been warned... follow the instructions.

It’s ok for trailers with four pins but when you connect trailers with seven pins the lights in the trailer don’t work

You mentioned that the lights on the trailer are not working when connected to the seven way. I recommend testing the functions on the vehicle seven way to make sure that the seven way is properly connected. After testing for function, the next step would be to test the ground on the vehicle and the trailer. If everything checks out on the vehicle side, then this would indicate that the issue is occurring on the trailer side. We do have a FAQ that can assist with seven-way wiring that you can see below.

I purchased a tow hitch, front steps and a wiring harness for the electric plug for the hitch for a 2018 Ford Transit 350 VAN I had checked with the [dealership] and was told that their computer didn't show any listing for the vehicle. I called etrailer and spoke to Steve, he was able to get all the items and the price was very affordable and I received the items in just 2 days. I had a service tech put the items on the vehicle and I am completely satisfied with the product.

2018 Ford Transit T250

Doesn't come with mounting bracket (and salesperson never told me one was required even though I specifically asked if anything else was needed in my order) . Had to stop the install and run to local trailer supply to purchase one which needed some modification (or wait a few days to ship from etrailer). How-to videos were very helpful but could be better (especially for small parts where a single viewing perspective left me guessing) . Harness itself works fine.

by:

Everything arrived on time, in good order. Instructions were simple and easy to follow. Only problem is that the first time after using it when I unplugged my trailer from it one of the blades/pins in the wire harness came out. I haven't attempted to call the company to remedy the problem. For those curious, yes it was greased

by:
2022 Ford Transit T250

High quality wiring harness, works perfectly. This wiring harness works on my 2023 e transit. It isn't listed as fitting the electric transit but I found that the wiring is exactly the same as all other transits. I have not tried to hookup a brake controller, but I believe it will work as the brake wiring is exactly the same as well.

My only complaint is I wish the wiring bundle to the front is about 1 foot longer.

2016 Ford Transit Connect

The trailer wiring kit for my 2016 transit works perfectly. Installation was straightforward and perform as expected. I would buy this product again without any delay. Thanks the etrailer the trailer wiring kit for my 2016 transit works perfectly. Installation was straightforward and perform as expected. I would buy this product again without any delay. Thanks

by:

I found the products to be as advertised and fit just as stated in the videos. The wiring harness was well put together. It could have had about 4 to 6 inches more wire on the drivers side as it was a little tight. Over all the items fit well and I would recommend etrailer products.

Van wiring harness for boat trailer connecting to existing Ford wiring was a snap. Product quality was excellant.

by:

Was very simple to hook up, Videos online showed installer going straight to the battery but I was able to run into the engine bay and hook to the jump point there and run the wiring for the brake controller through the firewall and then under the dash for easier wire management.

  • Trailer Hitch, Wiring, and Brake Controller for 2020 Ford Transit T350 Crew Van
Hey Kevin! Starting with a hitch I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch # e98842. This is a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver and a bolt-on installation. Based on the information you have given me I'm assuming you don't have factory wiring so you you will need the # 22114 (single rear wheel) or # 22116 (dual rear wheel) to add a 7-way. The correct wiring kit depends on if you have a dual rear wheel setup or not. Double check the rear bumper of your van and see if you have a dummy plug....
