Will Installing the Onan QG 2800i DF Onboard RV Generator Set Off EVAP Check Engine Codes?

Updated 10/24/2026 | Published 10/23/2026

Question:

I ordered a 2027 Ford Transit van T-350 extended. I have heard that hooking this dual fuel generator up to the primary van fuel tank will cause issues with the van evap system. I can’t see why it would though. Just wanted to clarify things before I order something.

Congrats on the new van David! If you use Ford’s designated auxiliary fuel port to supply the Onan QG 2800i DF Onboard Generator item # CM76GR you won't have any issues with connecting it to your new 2027 Ford Transit T350. So long as you don't drill into the fuel tank or tap into a fuel line you're good.

The issue you're worried about is related to the vacuum seal being broken allowing fuel vapers to escape. Using the auxiliary fuel port on the fuel tank sender unit maintains the closed system so you don't trip an EVAP code letting vapors out or air in.

The Onan QG 2800i DF Onboard Generator item # CM76GR is a dual fuel generator that runs on either gas or propane. It has a variable speed feature that protects sensitive electronics by matching engine performance to the electrical load. This is a 2,000 watt generator that can be safety used to start and power a 13,500 btu air conditioner.

What do you plan on powering with your new generator? Feel free to answer this and throw in any other questions you have, where it says Add Comment.
