VWD VW74FR Awning Bunk Window Wall Thickness and Interior Clearance

Updated 10/23/2026 | Published 10/22/2026

Question:

Will this clamp directly with no interior finishes, Only the sheet metal of the wall panel between the exterior window and the interior clamp frame. Or does it need thicker material between int + ext? Is it intended to clamp just the sheet metal body material? Length and width are noted … but what is the thickness of window and clamp? How far into the interior space does it protrude?

Hi there! The VWD part # VW74FR Awning Bunk Window is designed to clamp directly onto your van's wall, so you don't need to add interior trim or wood framing just to secure it. The included interior clamp ring is designed for wall material up to 1/8 inch thick, so bare sheet metal should work as long as your wall thickness is within that limit.

The window uses a foam tape between the exterior frame and the van's body to help create a weather-resistant seal. The clamp ring then secures the window against the wall. I'd recommend measuring your sheet metal thickness before installation to make sure it's compatible.

The window opens outward up to 3 inches and the frame thickness inside the van (how far the physical window body sticks into your living space past the metal wall) is 2-3/8 inches.

What van are you installing the window in, and do you know approximately how thick the sheet metal is?
