Demco Baseplate Fitment for 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee Equipped with Active Grille Shutter System

Updated 10/29/2026 | Published 10/21/2026

Question:

Hello, Are there any updates on the Demco DM39YV base plate? I’m considering this option for my 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit, which does not have factory tow hooks and is equipped with the lower air shutters. I’m leaning toward this base plate because the available information does not appear to indicate that cutting or modifying the frame is required. Before making a final decision, I’d appreciate any installation instructions, videos, or photos you may have available, particularly for a Jeep with this configuration. Any additional information confirming fitment and clarifying whether modifications to the frame or lower air shutters are necessary would be very helpful. Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to hearing from you. Best regards,

Thanks for reaching out Dave. Yes, the Demco Tabless Base Plate Kit # DM39YV will fit your 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the Active Grille Shutter System. Unfortunately, we don't have an installation video for this particular setup, and the installation instructions were a little harder to track down than I expected. Fortunately, I was able to get a copy directly from Demco after reaching out to them. I won't be able to attach the complete instructions here, but I'll send those to you separately and include a few screenshots below showing the important parts of the installation.

The good news is that you won't need to make any modifications to your Jeep's frame to install the base plates. One thing I noticed in the instructions is that, on Grand Cherokees equipped like yours, the base plate crossmember is installed in the opposite orientation from models equipped with factory tow hooks. This positions the base plate higher on the vehicle, allowing it to clear the lower active grille shutter system. You will need to do a little trimming around the grill openings where the removable base plate tabs connect, but it doesn't appear that you'll need to modify the active shutters themselves.

I've included a few screenshots from the instructions below that should give you a much better idea of what this looks like and where the trimming is required.

Is this your first time setting up a vehicle for flat towing, or are you replacing a vehicle you've previously towed behind your motorhome? I'd be happy to help with any of the other components you might need as well.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it very much. I'm still a little undecided as to how I want to proceed. Not having to cut any part of the frame is a plus.

@DaveB Agreed. After having reviewed the other base plates that will fit a Jeep with your configuration, most of them required drilling through the frame for installation. I do think the # DM39YV would be the way to go.
