Question:
We have a Ram 2500 and are pulling a 30ft airstream trailer. 9,000 lb trailer weight, 1,100 lb tongue weight. We live in AZ and tend to summer in the upper midwest each year so we put about 8,000 to 10,000 miles on the truck with about 6,000 of them pulling the trailer. We would like a smoother ride while pulling. We heard about things like the Timbren and other bump stop type of products, but your videos indicate these can actually make the ride rougher. Your videos also talk about air bags as an alternative, but we are not sure how that would work. Could we talk with someone who is knowledgeable on these products and provide us with some suggestions?

Hi Gary!
I can definitely help smooth out your ride while towing and unloaded. To do this on your 2015 Ram 2500, there are going to be two main options; bump stops, and air bags.
On the bump stop side of things, I recommend SumoSprings over Timbren. Timbren options are going to be on the heavy duty side of things and they work really well for people that tow full time, but they will be harsh for people that don't. With that said, I recommend the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs - Rear Axle # SSR-312-47 if you are wanting to go this way. These are rated up to 1,500 pounds of support, but they use a much softer material than Timbren, so they will offer support while not completely ruining your unloaded ride. You will know they are back there, but it won't be overly harsh.
However, if you didn't want to mess with your unloaded ride at all but still get good support while towing, you are going to want the Pacbrake Alpha HD Pro Air Bag Suspension Kit w/ Internal Jounce Bumpers - Rear Axle - 5,000 lbs # PB37ZV. Being air bags, these are very adjustable, making them the best option. This specific option can also run at 0 psi when you aren't towing, so you won't even know they are back there when you don't to. They are more expensive, but this is the way I would go if I were looking to do what you are doing.
There are a couple things to note with the air bag kit though. There is no drilling needed for the install, but this does not fit vehicles with factory Air Suspension system and it is not compatible with in-bed hitch (this mounts in same location as hitch brackets). Power Wagon models will also require the use of the Pacbrake Alpha HD spacer kit # PB73VV. The SumoSprings option fits no matter what you have, doesn't need any other parts, and also requires no drilling, so it is the easier install and the more "universal" fit. I still prefer the air bags though.
Out of curiosity, are you using weight distribution when towing your Airstream?

We are using a blue ox weight distribution/sway control hitch with 1,000 lb (4 dimples) bars that we put the 9th chain link into the trunions.
