How Does the Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch Measure Tongue Weight?

Published 10/14/2026

Question:

Im looking for a weight distribution hitch for my heavy travel trailer, but I dont know exactly how much tongue weight I have when everything is loaded. Does the Weigh Safe True Tow WS26YV measure the tongue weight for me, and how does that help with setting up the hitch correctly?

Hey Patrick, thanks for reaching out. Yes, and that's one of my favorite features of the Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch # WS26YV. It has a built-in tongue weight scale that lets you see how much weight your trailer is putting on the hitch without needing a separate scale. It also measures the distributed tongue weight as you adjust the system, so you can dial in the proper weight distribution instead of guessing at spring bar tension. Weigh Safe even has a companion app and online calculator to help determine your target distributed tongue weight.

This particular setup is rated for 18,500 lbs of gross trailer weight and 1,850 lbs of tongue weight, with a 2" shank and up to 4" of drop. It also has built-in friction sway control to help keep the trailer steady when dealing with crosswinds or passing trucks. The nice thing is that you can make weight distribution adjustments right at the hitch head without removing it, making setup much easier when your trailer's load changes. Just make sure your truck and receiver are rated for the loaded trailer.

What kind of trailer are you towing? Know how much it weighs?
