How Hard Is The Install Process For EcoHitch On 2023 Mercedes EQS To Tow Trailer?

Updated 10/14/2026 | Published 10/12/2026

Question:

i see the hitch is for the EQS 580 SUV, but not seeing a video of the installation, can you share the instructions to see how hard/easy and risky breaking clips on bumper it is? Want to have it for upright bike rack and for small utility trailer to do small dump runs.

Hey Iwan,

The installation for EcoHitch # EH94CR on the 2023 Mercedes EQS requires removing the rear bumper cover, disconnecting two wiring harnesses, removing the factory rear crossmember, and trimming a section of the lower bumper plastic to accommodate the hitch (this is fairly common on hitch installs). The hitch itself bolts into the existing mounting points without any drilling.

I'd consider this a moderately involved installation, but not too bad if you take your time. The biggest concern would be carefully removing the bumper cover without damaging the clips, especially if you haven't done this type of work before. A trim-removal tool and an extra set of hands would definitely help!

The hitch will work great for your upright bike rack and small utility trailer, although you'll also need trailer wiring for towing. For trailer wiring you can use the universal splice in kit # C59236.

I've attached some photos of the instructions so you can look through the pictures and decide whether you're comfortable tackling it yourself! If not, we have an installer locator tool that I've linked for you. We don't have an install video at this time and the vendor has not allowed us to share the instructions with customers at this time. What kind of bike rack and trailer do you have?

I had it done at a Mercedes dealership, pretty straightforward, no damaged clips or any issues at all.

@LeeM That's great to hear. Thanks for sharing! What are you planning to use the hitch receiver for?

“ temporarily removing the factory rear crossmember” Actually it replaces the factory rear crossmember. I installed it myself and used a YouTube video that explains how to remove the bumper cover. I didn’t break any clips.

@Ted Oh good call. I'll correct that. Thanks for the feedback; I'm glad you found a youtube video to get through it. Did the instructions help too?
