Hey there Joe!

With SumoSprings Solo kits like # SS96KJ, about 1/2" to 1" of clearance between the spring and the axle pad when unloaded is generally considered normal. These are confirmed to fit your 2026 Sierra 2500 rear axle.

The exact gap can vary a little from truck to truck depending on ride height, but you typically do not want them heavily preloaded when the truck is empty since that can make the unloaded ride firmer.

I had heavy duty Timbrens which were great under load, but they were a bit firm when unloaded and I'd feel it bang every time I hit a bump. In my newer truck I went with the SumoSprings and they are much more forgiving when unloaded, no more banging, and I still don't squat when towing my car hauler.

Now if you had a lift kit, you'd need spacers installed as well.

What are you planning to tow with that beast of a truck?
