What Kind of Tow Bars do I Have? Will They Work with etrailer Base Plate?

Published 10/06/2026

Question:

I have an existing tow used to pull a ranger p-up for several thousand miles in the past. Id like to use to pull a 2012 Ford Fiesta automatic using your base plate E98968. I cant locate manufacturer label or stamp on my tow bar but it uses 2 horizontal bushings inside frame that are 2inch wide and a female mount to a 2inch ball on tow vehicle receiver. The 2 horizontal pins used to attach measure around 5/8inch diameter. Will this base plate work with my existing tow bar as is or some addl adapter required?

Hello Mark,

Thanks for writing in!

From the picture, your tow bar looks very similar to either the Blue Ox Adventurer Adjustable Tow Bar # BX7322 or the Curt Adjustable Tow Bar # C19745, but the attachment points on yours are different. Without finding a manufacturer or model number on the tow bar, I cannot say for sure exactly what you have.

What I can tell you is that I do not have an adapter that I can verify will connect your existing tow bar to our etrailer base plate. Because of that, I recommend replacing the tow bar rather than trying to modify or adapt the one you have.

I would go with the etrailer Classic Base Plate Kit # e98968 and pair it with the etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar # e34ZR. This gives you a complete setup that we know is designed to work together.

If you are able to find any markings, numbers, or a manufacturer name anywhere on your current tow bar, please let me know. I am happy to take another look before you replace it.

Do you remember what kind of base plate you had on your Ranger? I don't like to give up easy, so I any additional information on your old set-up is helpful.
