What Controller Do I Need for Upgraded Kwikee Electric RV Steps?

Updated 09/25/2026 | Published 09/24/2026

Question:

My entry steps started working intermittently. Lippert 2 step prior to 06. Camping world sold me the beffier motor, wouldnt work. Then they sold me the upgraded gearbox, still dont work. I bought a Chinese set off of Amazon and these parts wouldnt work with each other but I used the controller and it made the steps run smoothly in/out but they were backwards and wouldnt work with my stay out switch. This got me through our vacation. Now I would like the correct controller for the upgrade motor and gear box that will work with my switch and door .

Hey John, thanks for reaching out. Based on what you described, you’ve already proven that the motor and gearbox are working. The fact that the steps operated smoothly with the Amazon controller points right back to the controller being the missing piece. Since your Lippert/Kwikee 2-step assembly is a pre-2006 setup that has been converted to the newer motor and gearbox, you need the newer-style controller that matches those upgraded components and still accepts the door switch and override/stay-out switch.

For that conversion, I recommend the Replacement Control Unit for Kwikee Electric RV Steps # LC379146. It is designed to work with the newer Kwikee motor/gearbox setup and restores the proper door-triggered operation and override switch function. One thing to keep in mind is that older Kwikee systems used different door-switch logic, so the door switch may also need to be changed to match the newer controller. The backwards operation you saw with the generic controller is a pretty good indication that its switching logic simply did not match your Kwikee system.

Do you still have the part numbers from the upgraded Lippert motor and gearbox Camping World installed?
