Why Are My Fas-Top Solo Side Rails Loose on My Ford Ranger?

Question:
The clamps do not engage the bed rail by +- 3/4inch so the side rails move about on my 2026 Ford ranger. Is there a fix to this, i.e. blocking etc. The topper that I received has different configuration of side rails depicted in install videos what am I missing? Id send pics but packed up everything to store it until I can figure out what is going on

Hey Rik, thanks for reaching out. The first thing I’d check is that each clamp is fully engaged and sitting flush against the underside of the Ranger’s bed rail. The Fas-Top side rails need to be seated firmly against the bed before the clamps are tightened. Once everything is positioned and tightened correctly, those rails should be solid and not move around at all.
I really don’t think you need spacers or blocking here. If you’re seeing roughly a 3/4" gap, loosen the clamps, reposition the side rail and clamps so they’re sitting square and fully engaged, then tighten everything evenly. The rail design may look different from the older installation videos, but that does not change how securely the rails need to mount.
Are all of the clamps coming up short, or is it only happening at certain spots along the bed?
