GR54FR Greystone Fireplace Troubleshooting

Question:
I bought this 26-inch curved glass fireplace from you 18 months ago. It worked fine for the first 6 or 8 months but has failed to turn on since that time. I have checked the electrical connections and have tried everything I know to get it to work. Neither the buttons on the front panel nor the remote with fresh battery have any effect. Should I get a replacement control board? New switches? New proximity sensor?

Hi Edward, before taking the fireplace apart, I’d check a few of the common causes of a Greystone fireplace not turning on. I’d start by unplugging the fireplace for 10 to 15 minutes to let the thermal protection reset, then plug it back in and try the controls again. It’s also worth making sure the outlet has power and that the fireplace plug and connections are secure.
I’d also give the area around the heating element and blower fan a good cleaning. Dust buildup can restrict airflow and cause the fireplace’s safety protection to shut it down, so vacuuming those areas can help.
If it is still completely unresponsive from both the front buttons and the remote after those checks, the control board could be the issue. Sadly, Greystone does not offer replacement components such as the control board, switches, or proximity sensor for us to recommend as individual replacement parts. It does have a 1-year warranty. Has it been exactly 18 months? Do you still have your original order information?

Ours worked all last winter and it was great in the spring it started working sporadically. Giving the manufacturer credit, it was badly handled by UPS AND when it arrived the logs were sideways in the window. I straightened it out and it worked fine. Back to last spring…… I found a short circuit on the power connection of the circuit board. This may have been caused by the handling during shipping. We like it so we will be buying another from etrailer soon. I do not believe that the problem was caused by the shipper and not etrailer or the manufacturer. ??

I had tried all of your recommendations prior to writing my cooment and question, obviously to now avail. The unit appears to be in good order otherwise, so I will find a control board from a different manufacturer and get it working.
