Hello Kenneth,

Thanks for writing in! Great question.

I recommend going with the Roadmaster Exact Center Steering Stabilizer # RM58RR for your 1997 Ford F-53 motorhome. The Exact Center is Roadmaster's newer steering stabilizer design and is a nice upgrade over the older RSSA system.

I see you were looking at the Exact Center # RM78RR, but you will want the # RM58RR for your 1997 F-53. While they are both Exact Center systems, Roadmaster matches the stabilizer and custom mounting brackets to the specific chassis application, and the # RM58RR is the correct setup for yours.

The # RM58RR will help keep your steering centered and make the motorhome easier to control when dealing with crosswinds, passing trucks, uneven pavement, and highway wandering. It also includes the custom mounting brackets you will need for your F-53.

If you plan on installing the Exact Center yourself, Roadmaster recommends having the motorhome professionally aligned before installing the stabilizer. You want the steering and alignment correct first so the Exact Center can be properly centered during installation.

I would definitely choose the Exact Center over the older RSSA setup. Where are you planning on taking the motorhome once you get the steering dialed in?

@KennethC That is a fair question, and you aren't wrong. The RSSA has been around for a long time and is still a really popular setup. It uses a spring and shock to react when the steering moves and help bring you back to center. The Exact Center # RM58RR works a little differently because it is designed to actively hold the steering at center and resist that wandering before it starts. The reason I recommended the Exact Center for your F-53 is because I like that more proactive steering control, especially on a Class A motorhome. That being said, the RSSA is a proven system, it is a little more forgiving to set up, and some people simply prefer the softer steering feel it gives them. The Exact Center has a firmer feel and needs to be centered correctly during installation, which is also why I recommend getting an alignment beforehand. So I completely understand why you are seeing people recommend staying with the RSSA. I don't think you would be making a bad choice with either one. I still lean toward the Exact Center # RM58RR for the added centering control, but if after reading this you feel like the RSSA is a better fit for what you want, # RM-RBK4-RSSA is the one you will want for your 1997 F-53.
