Higher Weight Capacity Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2023 Ford F-150

Updated 08/24/2026 | Published 08/14/2026

Question:

Hello, Looking to solve a problem that I currently have. I have a 2023 F150 that I am looking to pull a C8 corvette on an aluma trailer. My truck can pull up to 9400 lbs and has a payload of 1880 lbs. The hitch receiver that is currently on the truck is rated for: Weight carrying no WDH Max trailer 5,000 lb Weight distributing WDH Max trailer11,600 lb With the C8 Corvette and the trailer weight, I could be looking at close to or above 5000 and I do not want to use a weight distribution hitch as the aluma trailer wont handle that. What can you recommend? My search suggested based on my setup a CURT 14021. Is this a good way to go? Here is some additional information 2023 F-150 SuperCrew 4x4 5.0L V8 145 wheelbase factory 53A/53B receiver currently labeled 5,000/500 WC If the CURT 14021 is the way to go, If I install CURT 14021 on this truck, is the truck permitted to use the hitchs 10,000-lb GTW / 1,000-lb tongue weight-carrying rating without a weight-distribution hitch, subject to Fords 9,400-lb vehicle tow rating, GVWR and GAWR? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Gary, this is a great question but the Curt hitch # C26HR (same as the C14021) is a great option and is exactly what you are looking for. This is a higher rated trailer hitch than what you have now which would have the needed weight capacity to tow your car and trailer. With any towing setup you are only as strong as your weakest component so with this hitch installed you'd be able to have the full towing capacity of your truck. Is the Corvette on a trailer because you take it to races?

Hi Jameson, Does this hitch mount below the already existing hitch that is factory installed on my F150? Also, I read that even with an upgraded hitch, the specs ford provides still apply meaning anything above 5000 lbs needs a weight distribution hitch. @GaryE Yes it does hang below the factory hitch. I did look into this further and you are correct that the towing capacity does not increase unless a WD system is for sure used regardless of trailer hitch. So it looks like you are back to needing to use a WD system to be safe. I would recommend checking with Aluma to see if they have a way to use one with your trailer and go from there. You also should determine the weight of your C8 with the trailer to know exactly where you stand. You could be right under the capacity.
