Best Trailer Hitch For 1953 Chevy 3100 Pickup

Question:

I am looking to put a trailer hitch on a 1953 Chevy 3100 pick up. I have a small trailer that I would like to tow with a garden tractor on it. I don’t see any width of the hitch that you sell between the two frames that’s 45 1/2 inches why isn’t there any measurements for your hinges?

Hey Scott, thanks for reaching out. Since your 1953 Chevy 3100 doesn't have a custom-fit receiver hitch available, I'd recommend going with a universal weld-on hitch like the Curt # C15903. It has adjustable side brackets that fit frame widths from 18" to 60", so your 45-1/2" frame falls well within its adjustment range. The hitch is designed to be adapted to a wide variety of applications, so you'll want to have a qualified welder or fabricator install it and make any vehicle-specific modifications that are needed.

As for the measurements, we don't typically list the overall width of custom-fit hitches because they're engineered for a specific vehicle, so the dimensions aren't something you normally need to compare. Universal hitches are a little different since they're meant to fit a range of frame widths. That will definitely be your best bet for adding a hitch to your truck.
