Question:

I want to convert a cargo trailer for occasional camping use as well as the cargo trailer. I think I need a 120 inlet. transfer switch and distribution box with converter. is there like a package that I can purchase or do I have to get all seperatley? can someone assist in the right size components please. Thank you

Happy to help Bruce,

For a trailer conversion, a solid option is the WFCO 40A Auto-Detect Power Center # WFC72GR, it combines the 120V breaker panel, 12V fuse panel and converter/charger into one unit and supports both lead-acid and lithium batteries.

To complete the setup, you'll also need:

30 Amp Power Inlet # A10-30INBKVP
30 Amp Shore Power Cord # A10-3025EDBK

If you'll only be plugging into campground power, you won't need a transfer switch. Those are only necessary when switching between shore power and an onboard generator.

Part of the question was that we intend on using our solar, and gas generators for boondocking. Is it best to run the 120 volt items( fridge mostly) off of the generators or to install an inverter? Is there any schematics for such set ups?

@BruceM Since you'll be using shore power, solar and a portable generator, I'd recommend a pure sine wave inverter with a built-in transfer switch, like the Go Power Industrial Pure Sine Wave Inverter # GP82QR. It will automatically switch between shore power and inverter power, so there's no need for a separate transfer switch. If your refrigerator is a 12V model, it can run directly from your batteries and solar system. If it's a 120V residential refrigerator, the inverter will allow you to power it while boondocking without running the generator continuously. We don't have a complete wiring diagram for cargo trailer conversions because every build is unique, but once you decide on your battery bank, solar, and appliances, I'd be happy to help you select the right components and explain how they work together.
