Question:
I acquired a 99 chevy 2500 with a brake controller labeled made by tekonsha. It looks similar to the voyager. it has tag 11-98 on it and patent nos but no model # . I have a prodigy p2 in a 98 mountaineer and really like it and was thinking of possibility of exchanging the two so p2 is in the chevy. The chevy is hard wired not a harness. What parts would it take to put the p2 in the chevy and the voyager look alike into the 98 mountaineer? Or do you think they are the best match for vehicles now? Not sure advantages 1 over the other. The chevy will of course tow the most weight.

The main differences between the Prodigy and Voyager brakes controllers are that the Prodigy P2 # 90885 can be used with either electric or electric-over-hydraulic trailer brakes and includes built in diagnostics. The P2 also offers three levels of boost to let you adjust initial braking power. Both units are proportional type controllers that can be used with trailers having up to 4 axles (8 brake assemblies total). It also can be mounted in more positions than the Voyager.
The actual weight of the towed trailer for either truck does not really make a difference in terms of which is a better choice of controller.
For your Chevy we do offer a Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3025-P that connects either of these compatible controllers to the under-dash port on your truck. Please see the linked video and the articles for additional installation information.
