Looking For New Axles And Leaf Springs For Trailer Rebuild

Question:

Good afternoon, I made a previous inquiry about an axle replacement. I think I would actually like to do is replace both axles with either a very robust 3500 pound set of axles or possibly upsize it. I would like to keep my factory wheels to mitigate additional costs. I would like to also upgrade the leaf springs. Whenever you guys have a chance to reply, I will forward you pictures and dimensions. I’ve dealt with you guys before and you’ve always been super helpful. Look forward to getting some help on this project.

Hey John, thanks for reaching out. Yes, I can definitely help point you in the right direction.

For the axle replacement, I'll need to know the hub face (HF) length and spring center (SC) length of the current axle. If the axle sticker is still in tact, it should list these measurements. Otherwise, you can measure. We'll need to make sure the new axle is a direct length match to the old axle. Also, let me know what wheel bolt pattern you are working with.

For the leaf springs, I'll need to know the length of the spring. Leaf springs are measured from center-eye to center-eye right across, assuming they are double eye springs.

It might be a good idea to replace the shackles and bolts while you are at it. We should have a kit for you, I'd just need to know the length of the current shackle straps. Those are measured center-hole to center-hole as well.

Shoot me all that info when you get a chance and I'm happy to look into it and make sure you get the right stuff.

Good afternoon, Jesse. Here’s the info that I have. Max weight of the trailer is 7600 pounds. Hub face length- 84 inches Spring centers- 68 1/2 inches Leaf spring length- 26 inches x 1 3/4” Shackles have already been replaced with wet bolts, and I have the road armor equalizer I know lippert makes 4,400 and 5,200lb axles. I would be willing to jump up to the 5200 pound if the price is right. Thank you so much again for looking into this.

@JohnE Awesome that's exactly the info I needed. Unfortunately, though, we don't offer an axle in that exact size. The closest we have would be a 86-1/2" HF and 71-1/2" SC part # 8327816 which is a 5,200 lb axle. If I were you I'd try reaching out to an axle manufacturer like Dexter to see if they can provide an exact match. That said, you can jump to a 4,400 or 5,200 lb axle, but keep in mind this doesn't necessarily increase the weight capacity of the trailer. Other components like the frame and coupler may still have a lower weight rating. A larger axle will be more robust and will handle weight better if that is your goal. As far as the leaf springs, we do offer a 26" long spring part # e27SR which is rated for a 4,500 lb axle. This would be a good option provided the weight rating matches up with whatever axle you end up getting.
