Can The CE Smith Frame Straps CE20028GA Be Used On A Travel Trailer?

Updated 06/19/2026 | Published 06/17/2026

Question:

I have a vintage Travel Trailer 1978 Holidaire 16, 3500 lb axle. I recently changed the springs and the new shackles were shorter than original. As a result the rear end of the spring is sitting on the frame, which will likely break the springs not to mention a very rough ride. I am looking at your 4 1/2inch on centre which seems to be the same as what the original ones were. It seems, though, that these are for a boat trailer. Will they work on my TT ?

Hey Ray, thanks for reaching out. Yes, the CE Smith Frame Straps # CE20028GA can absolutely be used on a travel trailer. They are galvanized steel, so they are geared more for marine applications, but they can be used on any trailer. As long as the 4-1/2" hole-to-hole length is right for your trailer's suspension, you'll be good to go.

Are you needing new shackle bolts too? Or just the straps?
