Hello Brandon,

Thanks for writing in.

I was not able to find the specific stainless steel grades for the Paneloc Slam Latch # F707-204P in any published product information, so I reached out directly to Paneloc for confirmation. They were able to provide the following material specifications: the pin is 303 stainless steel, the body is 304 stainless steel, the springs are 302 stainless steel, and the roll pins are 303 stainless steel. The latch also includes one vinyl cap.

Because the latch is constructed with stainless steel components, it is a suitable choice for marine applications and other environments where corrosion resistance is important. The 304 stainless steel body provides good protection against rust and corrosion, making it a durable option for use around moisture, weather exposure, and freshwater environments.

That said, if the latch will be subjected to frequent saltwater exposure or a particularly harsh marine environment, 316 stainless steel is generally considered the best choice because it offers a higher level of corrosion resistance than 304 stainless steel. While the # F707-204P is not made from 316 stainless steel, its stainless steel construction still makes it a solid option for many marine and outdoor applications.

What type of boat or marine equipment are you planning to install the latch on?
