Question:

Good morning. Looking for either Thule or Yakima cross bars for 2025 BMW X1 2.8i, but also has to fit 2018 BMW X3 M40i, both cars have the flush rails. X3 rails are about an inch wider 35. I am looking at Thule Wingbar Evo, Thule Wingbar Edge, and the Yakima Sightline. All these would be able to accommodate both cars, correct? Thank you for your time and expertise.

Hey Andre. To install a roof rack on your 2025 BMW X1 2.8i and your 2018 BMW X3 M40i, I recommend the Thule WingBar Evo Roof Rack item # TH32SG.

The Thule item # TH32SG will attach directly to the flush rails on both your BMW's. This kit includes two 50" wide crossbars, along with the necessary towers and mounting kit needed to securely attach to your roof rails.

We also have the same exact kit but with silver crossbars item # TH94SG.

Thank you very much. In the winter I carry a ski box on the roof rack. In the summer I load one or two standup paddle boards. I was thinking about the Thule Wingbar Edge, for a slightly cleaner look, and less bar sticking out. I guess the Wingbar Evo has easier/better adjustability between the two cars. Is that why you recommend the Evo over the Edge? Regards, Andre

@AndreK You're welcome! I recommended the WingBar Evo Roof Rack item # TH32SG because it has the most usable crossbar space and I didn't know what you were putting on it. I agree the Thule WingBar Edge item # TH82WG in black or item # TH34VG in silver would be a better option for a cleaner look. The crossbars will dead end at the towers instead of overhanging the side rails. Each kit will fit both your BMW's.
